This Privacy Policy explains how Trybe Streams Technology Limited ("Trybe", "we", "us" or "our"), the operator of the Trybe mobile application and related services (the "Service"), collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data. We are committed to handling your data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and other applicable laws.
By creating an account or using Trybe, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
1. Who we are (Data Controller)

2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account data: username, display name, email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our identity provider), and date of birth used for age verification.
- Profile data: profile photo, cover photo, bio, country and time zone.
- Content: live streams, reels, stories, comments, chat messages, voice notes and any media you upload or broadcast.
- Payment-related data: records of virtual coin purchases and gifts. Card and banking details are processed by Apple (In-App Purchase); we do not receive or store your full payment card numbers.
- Support data: information you send us when you contact support or report content.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, language, and interactions such as views, likes, follows and watch time.
- Approximate location: derived from your IP address or device settings.
- Diagnostics: crash logs and performance data to keep the Service stable.
Information from others
- Other users may mention you, invite you to co-host, send you gifts, or report content you posted.
3. How we use your information
We use your personal data to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Operate core features: live streaming, co-hosting, reels, stories, direct messages, follows and virtual gifts.
- Deliver, store and stream your media to your chosen audience.
- Process virtual coin purchases and creator gifting.
- Send service messages and, where you have opted in, push notifications.
- Maintain safety: detect fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms; moderate content; and respond to reports.
- Improve and develop the Service through analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
4. Legal bases for processing
Under the NDPA/NDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Performance of a contract, to provide the Service you sign up for.
- Consent, for optional features such as push notifications, camera/microphone access and certain analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests, to keep the platform safe, prevent abuse and improve our features, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation, to comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as described here:
- With other users: your public profile and any content you choose to broadcast or post is visible to your audience. Live video and audio are transmitted to viewers and co-hosts in real time.
- Service providers (processors): we use trusted vendors who process data on our behalf under contract, including:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS), cloud hosting, media storage and live-video infrastructure (Amazon IVS), located in the United States (region us-east-1).
- Agora, real-time audio/video transport for calls and co-hosting.
- Apple, app distribution, push notifications and In-App Purchases.
- Legal and safety: we may disclose data to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or Trybe.
- Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, data may be transferred subject to this Policy.
6. International data transfers
Trybe's infrastructure stores and processes data on servers located outside Nigeria (in the United States). Where we transfer your data abroad, we take steps required by the NDPA/NDPR to ensure an adequate level of protection, including contractual safeguards with our processors. By using the Service you understand that your data may be processed in these locations.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary:
- Account and profile data, for as long as your account is active.
- Content, until you delete it or close your account, subject to short technical backup windows.
- Transaction records, for the period required by tax and financial laws.
- Safety and moderation records, for as long as needed to enforce our Terms and meet legal obligations.
When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it.
8. Your rights
Subject to the NDPA/NDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

9. Children's privacy
Trybe is intended for users aged 13 and older. Users under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls and secure cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your account by keeping your password confidential.
11. Permissions we request
The app may ask for access to your camera and microphone (to stream, co-host, record reels and send voice notes), your photo library (to upload media), and notifications. You can manage these permissions at any time in your device settings.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
